Having trouble choosing your permanent makeup colours? You’re not alone! We’ll walk you through our numbered guide on choosing your perfect colours for you today.

As consumers, we’re blessed with plentiful options for our makeup colours. That’s also where the problem lies. The fact that there are so many options can be overwhelming. So, when choosing makeup colours, it’s common for women to make mistakes.

But not anymore. We’ve put together this handy guide to help you choose the right makeup colours for your skin tone.

How to Choose Makeup Colours Which Match Your Skin Tone

Each woman is unique in what makes her up. Your ideal makeup colours will depend on your personal combination of hair colour, eye colour and skin tone. We’ve put together these steps to help guide you in choosing the right makeup colours:

  • 1. Identify your Skin tone – hold a piece of white paper up to your face in natural light and look into the mirror. This will help you select the right foundation and blush.
  • if your face appears pink or bluish, you have cool undertones. Choose a foundation which is only slightly pink. Blusher should be true baby pinks, mauve or plum.
  • if your face is yellow or orange, you have warm undertones. Choose a foundation which has a warm appearance and yellow tones. An apricot blush or purple berry colour will suit you for a blush.
  • if your face is somewhere in the middle, you’ve got neutral undertones. You could wear either a cool or warm toned foundation. You could wear an apricot or baby pink blush.
  • 2. Eye makeup – it’s easier to select eye shadow and eyeliner than it is foundation! The general rule is, you want to use a makeup colour which is different from your eye colour. The exception to this is if your eyes are hazel, brown or grey, when you can wear the same colour.
  • Blue or grey eyes – look for a nude, medium brown or peach coloured shadow. Shimmer, satin matte and glitter would look stunning.
  • Green eyes – look for gold, plum, warm amber or light pink eye makeup.
  • Brown eyes – consider rose gold, taupe, mossy green or even navy smokey eye makeup colours.
  • 3. Lip colours – here’s where you want to take note of your skin tone and hair colour to find the perfect lippy.
  • Light hair
  • Warm skin tone – lighter corals, deep fiery reds
  • Neutral skin tone – plummy pinks, baby pinks and pure reds
  • Cool skin tone – plummy purples, blue-reds
  • Medium hair
  • Warm skin tone – bright colours – pinks, orangey-reds and bright corals
  • Neutral skin tone – pure pink, true reds
